Home Euthanasia: What You Need to Know…
Not a day goes by that we don’t receive an inquiry about home euthanasia services.
Euthanasia – also known as “putting to sleep” or “putting a pet down” – is quite common. In fact, approximately 90% of the pets we care for are euthanized, either at the veterinarian’s office which cared for the pet’s medical needs during life, or at home by a veterinarian who makes house calls.
More and more families who choose euthanasia are opting to have the service performed at home. While the reasons are many and varied, most commonly we hear from families that their pet is either too large to transport to the vet’s office, they prefer the comfort and privacy of their own home, or they feel that transporting the pet may add an additional layer of stress to the pet who may already be uncomfortable.
If home euthanasia is something that you would like to explore, we suggest phoning your veterinarian’s office to see if this is a service they provide.
You’re also welcome to call our office at any time and we can refer to you a number of vets offering this service.
As always, you have the right to request whichever pet cremation service you prefer. If you select Forever Friends, we will be honored to care for you and your pet.
